It's often said that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, but if you're trying to lose weight, you might be starting your daily efforts off on the wrong foot. Many commonly enjoyed breakfast foods and drinks are not only unhealthy, but they're also not conducive to weight loss. This can mean that, even if you exercise daily, your choice of breakfast could be sabotaging your efforts. Fortunately, by making some simple changes to your breakfast routine, you can reduce your intake of calories, avoid food cravings throughout the day, and work toward reaching your goal of losing weight. Here are some changes to make.
Don't Drink Anything With Calories
Changing your approach to drinking can be beneficial as you work toward losing weight. Many people drink a glass of juice in the morning, but even if the juice doesn't contain any added sugar, it will be packed with calories. Other people consume tea or coffee; on their own, these products are low in calories, but when you add milk and sugar, they instantly become significant calorie sources. You're better off having a glass of water. It will provide you with hydration to replenish your body, and it doesn't contain any calories.
Add More Fiber
Fiber is a valuable addition to the diet of anyone who wishes to lose weight. Although often primarily seen as a digestive aid, fiber also can be an ally in weight loss because it makes you feel fuller. When you consume fiber with breakfast, you'll hopefully feel full enough that you won't be tempted to reach for a snack midway through the morning. You can get fiber through whole-grain cereal, but make sure that you buy a product that is low in added sugar; ideally, you should aim for a cereal without any added sugar. You can then improve the flavor by mixing some berries in with your bowl. This is doubly effective, given that berries are also high in fiber.
Stay Away From Carbs
High-carb breakfast foods, such as bagels, toast, and muffins, can definitely be satisfying. However, they'll also spike your blood sugar, which means that you'll soon be craving more sweets. This can mean that you won't be able to pass up the box of donuts being passed around once you get to your office. Try to avoid these foods at breakfast time. Instead, focus on getting a fill of protein from things such as seeds, nuts, and high-protein yogurt. Protein is also valuable to help you feel more full.
