Adults of all ages sometimes still have trouble attending scheduled doctor's visits if it has anything to do with getting shots. It is understandable that your child may throw a tantrum or cry when the idea of getting their immunization is brought up. While many children would like to skip this stage of their doctor visit, getting immunizations helps to protect your child and other children from the spread of diseases. Therefore, it is important to calm your child before arriving at the doctor's office in order to ensure that the process goes as smooth as possible. Fortunately, there are a few herbal teas that you can give to your child before getting their immunizations in order to relax them.

Lemon Balm Tea

Lemon balm has long been used as a natural remedy for stress and anxiety. The herb functions as a natural relaxant and sedative. You can create a lemon balm tea for your child by taking a teaspoonful of dried lemon balm and placing it in a cup. Fill the cup with hot water and allow the herb to sit for several minutes. Strain the lemon balm and add lemon juice as well as honey. Instruct your child to drink the lemon balm tea thirty minutes before their scheduled immunization. You should notice a change in your child's stress levels by the time you arrive at the doctor's office.

Nutmeg Tea

Nutmeg is most commonly used in baked goods because it produces a mildly spicy taste. However, the herb is also used to treat anxiety and to help individuals who have difficulty sleeping. The spice works as a natural relaxant and can be used to calm your child before their appointment. In order to make nutmeg tea, place a spoonful of nutmeg in a small pot of water and allow it to boil. Once it boils, remove the pot from the stove and pour a quarter cup of the mixture into a glass cup. Add a few tablespoons of milk and honey to the glass cup and give it to your child to drink. Make sure that your child consumes the nutmeg tea at least thirty minutes before they are scheduled to get their immunization.

The immunization process can be overwhelming and stressful for a lot of young children, especially if this is their first time. Therefore, use these herbal teas to help relax and calm your child before they get their shots.
